Often shortened to Salt Lake or SLC, is the capital and the most populous city of the U.S. state of Utah. With a population of 189,899 as of the 2011 estimate,[3] the city lies in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area, which has a total population of 1,145,905. Salt Lake City is further situated in a larger urban area known as the Wasatch Front, which has a population of 2,328,299.[4] It is one of only two major urban areas in the Great Basin (the other being Reno, Nevada), and the largest in the Intermountain West.
The city was founded in 1847 by Brigham Young and his Mormon followers, who extensively irrigated and cultivated the arid valley. Due to its proximity to the Great Salt Lake, the city was originally named “Great Salt Lake City”—the word “great” was dropped from the official name in 1868.[5] Although Salt Lake City is still home to the headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), fewer than half the population of Salt Lake City proper are members of the LDS Church today.[6]
Immigration of international LDS members, mining booms, and the construction of the first transcontinental railroad initially brought economic growth, and the city was nicknamed the Crossroads of the West. It was traversed by the Lincoln Highway, the first transcontinental highway, in 1913, and presently two major cross-country freeways, I-15 and I-80, intersect in the city. Salt Lake City has since developed a strong outdoor recreation tourist industry based primarily on skiing, and was host to the 2002 Winter Olympics. It is the industrial banking center of the United States.[7]-Wikipedia

La ville de Salt Lake City est la capitale de l’État d’Utah, aux États-Unis, et le siège du comté de Salt Lake. Elle a été ainsi nommée pour sa proximité avec le Grand Lac Salé (en anglais, Great Salt Lake). Son altitude va de 1 284 à 2 870 mètres. L’altitude moyenne est de 1 320 mètres.
La ville a été fondée au xixe siècle par des pionniers membres de l’Église de Jésus-Christ des saints des derniers jours, couramment appelés mormons, conduits par leur chef, Brigham Young. La ville s’appelle d’abord Great Salt Lake City avant de prendre son nom actuel en 1868.
Salt Lake City abrite 178 097 habitants dans la ville. La zone métropolitaine de Salt Lake City s’étend sur les comtés de Salt Lake, de Summit et de Tooele pour une population de 1 018 826 habitants. Selon l’estimation de 2005, l’agglomération métropolitaine de Salt Lake City–Ogden compte 1 586 740 habitants.
Salt Lake City fait partie de la région urbaine sise aux pieds des montagnes Wasatch et appelé Wasatch front. Avec plus de 2 millions d’habitants, cette région urbaine abrite 85 % de la population totale de l’Utah ainsi que les autres principales villes de l’État comme Ogden et Provo.
En 2002, la ville a accueilli les XIXe Jeux olympiques d’hiver.
Salt Lake City est le siège de plusieurs universités, dont l’université de l’Utah.
Bien que la moitié de la population de la ville soit mormone, Salt Lake City est beaucoup plus diverse religieusement que le reste de l’État. De plus, elle est, depuis les années 1970, un bastion libéral du parti démocrate au sein d’un État conservateur et républicain.
Une tornade a été observée à Salt Lake City le 11 août 1999.

Salt Lake City- Thủ phủ của bang Utah_Huê kỳ_ thành lập vào khoãng thế kỹ thứ 19 do một nhóm tín đồ Thiên chúa giáo gọi là Mormon, do Brigham Young lãng đạo.Thành phố này lúc bấy giờ co`1 tên la Great Salt Lake City, do sự tiếp cận với hồ nước măn có tên la Great Salt Lake, nay thàngh phố này đã mất đi cái danh từ Great để chính thức trở thành Salt Lake City vào năm 1886.

Salt Lake City, dân số 178.097 người,nằm dưới chân rặng núi Wasatch.

Năm 2002, Thế vận hội mùa đông được tổ chức tại thành phố  này .

Thành phố SLC co` nhiều trờng đại học , nổi tiêng hơn cả là viện đại học Utah, trong có viện bảo tàng Thiên nhiên_ Natural History Museum .

Qua qu1a trình thành lập Salt Lake City, hiện nay 50% dân chúng tại SLC theo tôn giáo Mormon (Amish) .

Les Amish sont les héritiers des premiers anabaptistes. Le fondement principal de leur doctrine religieuse est de ne pas baptiser les enfant car ce n’est nécessaire car pour être sauvés, ils n’en ont pas besoin. Seuls les adultes qui connaissant le sens du bien et du mal, eux, doivent l’être. Ils croient  dans la séparation de l’église et de l’état (l’homme ne peut pas faire serment d’allégeance à n’importe qui d’autre que Dieu). Ce mouvement semble en fait être naît d’une réaction contre l’église officielle de l’époque trop laxiste selon certains et surtout vivant dans la luxure.

Mormon_ Amish_ là một nhánh của thiên chúa giáo. Chủ thể khác biệt nhất với Thiên chú giào Vatican là họ không làm lể rửa tội cho con trẻ bởi họ quan niệm những đứa trẻ chưa có nhiễm tôi ! Chỉ có người đã trưởng thành, biết phải quấy mới cần rửa tội mà thôi ! Tổ chức công giáo Mormon này có thể là do sự chống đối của một số tín đồ Thiên chúa giáo , vào một thời kỳ mà số tín hữu này cho là Tòa thánh chính thức quá nhu nhược  và lạm dụng (?).

Người  Mormon hồi đó sống riêng với nhau . Ngày nay họ đã hòa vào dâ7n chúng theo các tôn giáo khác . Muốn đi tìm lại cuộc sống đặc biệt Mormon phải đến một nơi gọi là “This is ths Place” cũng không xa thành phố để tìm lại nét xụa .
